I'm looking for some waterproof trousers that will look okay on or off the bike. I don't want over-trousers but some I can wear all day. I'm training to be a Bikeability Trainer and will be working in schools so Lycra is obviously out of the question. I want some that will be both warm and waterproof/easy drying. I've looked at several and Hummvees look ideal. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
If I go for Hummvee's what size would I want as I'm now 32" waist and 30" inside leg. 30" - 32" seems to be Small but I've never bought small since I was a child. How do Endura's sizes come up.

What is with the forum tonight - this is the 4th post!

I don't think Humvees are technically waterproof - nylon. I would say Medium for a 32" waist - they don't come up too big, try some on at Evans or similar

Humvees are not water proof, they tend to soak up water compared to lycra but they are pretty functional and dry fast. My pairs are medium (the 32") I could easily get away with something narrower but I've not got a big waist I went more for comfort and to suit my legs.

These get my vote!

On a serious note, check out hiking/backpacking type gear, alot of tat stuff is designed to be fast dry so should suit your needs of looking decent and practical.

or something like.

most backpackers need very practicle clothes as they need to pack light so alot of top brands make what your looking for if you know where to look.

if budget isnt an issue then £30-60 will get you something that you could wear on a bike and get away with down the pub.

check that site out for ideas.

try keywords in google, hiking backpacking water resistant trousers.

Full water proof will make you sweat, many materials will resist it for a good while but still are breathable, light weight and dry superfast

**Just make sure they have some room on the knee, most do these days but without it will be unconfortable to cycle in

If you know what's good for you ...
I have just spent 4 weeks living in my waterproof trousers while cycling in Norway. I opted not to go for the Alturas because of the price tag, and instead went for the brand that I've trusted for the past 20 years (Berghaus). I recommend them highly:

They don't use GoreTex but Berghaus' own membrane - hence the price is very attractive at only £35. I found them to be very waterproof and breathable: even in the worst Norwegian weather, they kept me dry. The only disadvantage is that it's not a cyclist cut, so cycle clips are necessary.

I use Altura Night Vision waterproof trousers, they are sturdy, breathable and nice fit.

I'm not sure how much I bought mine for a few years back but they are still going very strong, and worth the money.
I've got a pair of these too, I find them quite boil in the bag though, only wear them in very heavy rain or winter :cold:

The Berghaus Deluge trousers have a nice long zip and poppers which is great for ventillation. During changeable weather, I loved the way I could almost unzip them completely, which saved me having to take them off and put them away!

I,ve had couple of pairs of the deluge trowsers for walking and they are great ,never paid more than £25 aswell but never considered them for cycling before although I use the berghaus jacket of the same material with the vents for cycling which is the only jacket I,ve found to work for cycling. Will try the trowsers and see how I get on (If they still fit)!

What is with the forum tonight - this is the 4th post!

Sorry about the number of times I posted this thread. I posted again today cos yesterday I kept getting an error message when I tried to post.

Thanks to all the ideas. I've got a bit more research to do. As well as look through all the threads I've posted for other ideas.
