That's nothing, I've got the paint the shed, ferry seven small girls off to a birthday party and cut the grass today. Depending on how accurate my carb lading has been, I may be able to push the boat out and cut my toenails as well before collapsing into a comfy chair with a cup of cocoa.
Oi,are you gonna carry them while running????

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Does cycling to work , doing a full night shift , cycling home , having 3 hours sleep then getting up to deal with whinging wife, 2 kids and doing all the house work count as superhuman ?

I used to run but only up to around 1/2 marathon distance as i was never that serious as i wanted to go cycling , swimming, martial arts etc as well

I don't know that's such a good thing. My mate, Aspy, holds several fell-running records, some of which go back many years, and was once the second fastest British-born runner over 40 to run a road 10K so I have great belief in a lot of what he says. His mother has done all sorts of long-distance stuff like C2Cs, LeJogs and several Pennine Ways so Aspy comes from good stock but he NEVER runs long distances and reckons that is the way to an early grave. When I say 'long' distances, I mean anything over a half marathon. He firmly believes the body is not designed for such extreme efforts. He cites many of our club-mates and associates who did the Bob Graham and died suddenly shortly after without displaying any signs of illness. He also told me he once met Hugh Symonds who had recently completed a self-propelled run taking him up all the 3,000 footers in Scotland, England, Wales and (ferry across the Irish Sea apart) Ireland. He told me Hugh recognised him straight away but Aspy had to ask who he was as he reckoned he had aged so dramatically in the time since he'd done his event that he couldn't place who he was.

The light that burns twice as brightly, burns half as long.

Okay, congradulations to everyone, you're all still living so its a superhuman effort;)

But PaulB,his lactic levels go down while he is running so its seems that he never gets tired as no Lactic acid acumulates in his body:eek:

It's not the lactic that'll kill you! The constant jarring of joints won't help him, either.

While I'm impressed, on the basis that I couldn't do that stuff (or be bothered to try), I'm more impressed by people who do less extreme stuff every day just to survive - walking miles to fetch water, or work doing jobs like heavy lifting. Stuff that actually gets stuff done, day after day.

(Was watching Ice Road Truckers: Dangerous Roads last night, and there's this trucker who reckons he's the 'most badass driver', all beefed up from the gym, full of Red Bull (he's actually a dock trucker from LA, so just drives around on tarmac all day). He made a big deal of helping to unload his load of bags of cement, although you could see he was clearly used to lifting gym weights, not sacks, and he was sweating and gasping and all around him, skinny little Bolivian guys just got on with it, because if they didn't, they didn't eat. And they'd do the same tomorrow and the day after and the day after....
