I like the Islays. I've got a bottle of Glenmorangie downstairs and it's like drinking syrup, just too sweet and bland for me. It wees in its trousers if you put a bottle of Laphroaig quarter cask or Caol Ila next to it. Those two, plus Highland Park and Ardbeg are my favourites. Blends are good for sauces or toddies and it makes bugger all difference what they are to me; non-Scotch whiskies are not something I've ever felt the need to try, other than a curiosity - driven experiment with a bottle of Penderyn (which was ok, but a bit too Jack Daniels-y for my taste).
