But my absolute favourite is Ardbeg Uigeadail... if you can find some, get it. What an amazing whisky that is - head and shoulders above anything I have ever tasted.

Never tried the Uigeadail but knowing I loved the regular Ardbeg, my dad gave me a bottle of Airigh Nam Beist last Christmas - best thing I've ever drunk bar none.

ALDI irish whiskey is my current 'evryday favourite'. I havent tried too many good ones, but had a bottle of 18yr old glenfiddich for my 40th - lovely, you could taste everything it said in the blurb, apples or pears i think and a hint of cinnamon.

white & mackay is a surprisingly nice cheap-ish blended whisky - a bit diferent to the run of the mill, quite sweet

bells is horrible

its something i need to 'research' more...So, based on my tastes as above, can anyone recommend me some good 'posh whiskey' for sipping as opposed to necking?

(i used to like glenmorangie but find glenfiddich a bit more agreeable)

I don't drink any more but from memory, they all taste the same by the time you've finished the first bottle.

Oban is a really nice malt - sweet but not too sweet, a little fruity and a really smooth finish - even has hints of a really smooth cognac in there. Or if you're ever anywhere near Edinburgh get to the Whisky Heritage Centre - its a fantastic place to do some "research"!

I quite like the occasional glass of whisky, I opened a bottle of single malt about three years ago and at the rate it's going it'll probably last longer than me. I was given a 12 year old malt as a millennium special from work - it's now an unopened 22 year old malt. Does this stuff go off?

does not go off, does not improve, does not change.

You still have a 12 year old malt in a 10 year old bottle.

Balvenie double wood is quite more-ish but rather pricey. For a nice scented (affordable) Speyside it has to be Aberlour. Top of the pile is Glengoyne if you can find it...eau de vie if there is such a thing!

In the interest of your good health and wellbeing I am happy to volounteer as taster/tester for the old (and probably ruined due to its age) 22 year old malt........ If you would care to send it to me I will be happy to test it and let you know how my health is affected, however, in the interests of science and to achieve a meaningful result I might have to do several tastings...... this may mean that there would be insufficent remaining to return to you.

I realise that I am being totally selfless and altruistic by making this kind and generous offer - but hey - that's the kind of guy I am !
