White poppies are just wrong but that's just my two cents if it was left to the army to decide who to fight there would be no wars

It's the first year for ages that I haven't worn a red poppy. I am not happy with the way the RBL charity pushes itself forward. We were sent one of those balsa-wood crosses with a poppy on it, unsolicited, with a very pious and irritating letter, which I thought was ill-judged and a waste of money (I mean, what am I supposed to do with it?). Then a few weeks ago there was a story in the paper about how shocked RBL was as they had failed to secure Heritage Lottery funding for their commemorative idea for 2014, which involved giving everyone poppy seeds and getting them to sow them all over the UK (wow, yeah, great idea ecologically) - a story which could only have come from RBL itself as a press release. I thought the whinging was poor show, especially as they were asking for something like £200K to do it. The story set up the Lottery fund for a lot of online abuse, even though the Lottery has funded loads and loads of WWI projects with far better educational value.

I feel uneasy going past the sellers, and I suppose I still might buy a poppy, especially as both my grandfathers fought at the Somme. But I wish RBL would behave better.

White poppies are usually worn by people trying to make a point where as the red poppy is worn out of respect for the men and woman who died fighting for their country.
I would say if you want to wear a white poppy why not wear the red one next to it and you can make your point and show some respect at the same time.
