Ultimately his mate needs to decide, @Dave7 has said there are good LBSs near to him so he can make a choice
There are 3 Cube stockists within 20 miles. 2 of them have absolutely no 'Pelotons' in and the 3rd has Attains which he says (truthfully I believe) that Cube have stopped making the Peloton.............hence the on-line offers. So we have tried LBSs without success

Just read reviews of retailers, and buy with a credit card in unlikely case of issues

Purchased a CAAD10 from Paulscycles about 4 years ago....has been brilliant and arrived pretty well set up.

Got a Cannondale Supersix from a cycle shop on ebay that was worth the £600 discount but has presented a few minor issues in setting up.

No different from two previous purchases from my LBS that were plagued with issues - more so than the online purchases

As many of you are aware i do a bit of buying and selling of retro road bikes mainly as far as i am aware in the 8+ year i have been doing it only 2 buyers have complained upon receipt of the bike , one complaint was that bike had different pedals than ones shown in the picture and the other complained the rear wheel had a very small and hardly noticeable flat spot , both were sorted as needed .

A good friend of mine has just imported a car from America it arrived 3 months late and then once he got it home he had a close inspection on the underside and a lot of the floor area has been very badly damaged by fork lift arms where it has been moved around during unloading and loading not sure if his insurance will cover it as he didnt mention the damage before he drove away from the port !!

I have bought my first new bike online a couple of months ago and so far it is perfect but it hasn't done much yet. Before i bought it i had checked all the lbs and there was nothing to compare in price which was a pity as i would have been happier buying locally.

Bought my Cube Peloton from Chain Reaction Cycles, no problem whatsoever. They even gave me a bag containing flat pedals, a little multitool, a much-needed pedal spanner, a bidon and several sachets of isotonic concoction which probably taste like gnat's pee, despite their undoubted ability to power me up climbs like Quintana.

Conversely, I bought a Fuji from Evans for my lad as a graduation present, which arrived with two less stem bolts than it should have, and the hassle I had trying to get a pair of the same bolts out of them was something to behold.

I purchased my Specialized hybrid from Tredz last year. It came in good time but had issues with the disc brakes rubbing & squeaking straight out of the box and a few other minor things needing adjusting. They offered £30 to get it set up locally. When I took it into my local Chain Reaction store, they made the adjustments for free. After a good few rides I tried to put an honest review of the bike on their site which is when I noticed, unless it's a 4 or 5 star review they won't put it up.

I bought the wifes bike from Rutland last year, no problems. Purchased a Forme from Rutland for myself recently. Got cold feet before it arrived, was informed that it'd cost me £20 for them to recall it from the courier, fine. They called me back saying that they had got in touch with the courier and once it was returned I'd get my full refund minus £20 recall fee. That was over a month ago, I've still no refund. Numerous calls and emails and all I get is that they'll get back in touch. Still waiting!
