I don't think they do. We live in a society that accepts death on the road as part of the price of doing business.
That's about attitudes; nothing to do with the principles that I described. ("These principles translate perfectly into the situation we face on the roads".)
In any case, there are many people who accept injuries and deaths on building sites as part of the price of doing business, but it is still worth doing something about it and the principles of how you do it still apply.

Can we ever reach a consensus of what is acceptable behaviour in the use of shared space in a civilised society? Is the fear of drivers who do potentially dangerous things based on the reality of risk or is it the cyclist's bogeyman? Isn't cycling, on otherwise empty roads still a potentially dangerous thing to do?
Consensus, yes (as opposed to agreement). That is a political thing, and I've said before that a political approach is the way to address it. For example: "Why should your children have to prove negligence against the driver who ran them over? Vote for presumed liability now!"

Is this a close pass which is considered acceptable or just one of those things.
It starts of so well but then for some reason they cut in very quickly.

Note, there is nothing in the oncoming lane, I am in secondary, it is a 30mph zone, I am not going very fast as it's up a small drag into a headwind, I am using Marathon Winters and I not that fast anyway.

I was that interested in the cam angle I forgot to say what I thought of the pass^_^
First they shouldnt have been passing on the gridded white line area I think? Should have waited till passed the bend. The cars pass was not bad, the bus should have given more room, but I dont think it was dangerous.

I think when combined with the helmet camera it will look more "dangerous" as they continue to move to the kerb, plus they did seem to be speeding. Often on that road I will do what I can to facilitate an overtake by buses, moving out of the way if I can and slowing down when they start to come along side.
My gripe is it was totally unnecessary and "stands out" as the bus drivers on that road display a very high professional standard of driving.

Ah the flaw to the great cam position, if I had seen a pull in too soon I would agree with you. But I can only go on what i see.

Just on a technicality, there is nothing wrong in itself with vehicles going into the hatched area of road unless it has a solid white border, which this one hasn't.

I understand you can only go by what you see in the short video.
Not really possible to produce the full video at work, laptop pc not really upto editing HD video.
The final video will have footage from three cameras, helmet, rear facing handlebar and top of pannier rack. possibly with my slow speed shown on the helmet camera video as it has GPS data embedded in it which I can display with Dashware.
