and why?

given all the main SH contenders appear to have said "No ta!"

Don't think I'd never heard of Dave Rennie until this weekend.

Maybe another ex-player. That's gone well recently.

I've only heard of him from watching SR. Very little international exposure though (under 21s iirc).

If we can't get an accomplished international coach then I do like Conor O'Shea. He worked miracles when at Irish.

If it's got to be an English man then let's throw some money at Exeter to get Rob Baxter

Baxter, I fear, is just as uncooked at elite level as Mr Lancaster...

Very true but when it comes down to it we only really have two experienced international coaches, Brian Ashton and Clive Woodward. I wouldn't say Ashton failed but....... And I doubt Woodward would go back while Rob Andrew is still there.

Could always ask Geech

Australia’s Michael Cheika not interested in becoming England head coach

Northampton’s Jim Mallinder says no to England after beating Scarlets

Warren Gatland: ‘I am not interested in the England job’

England must trust themselves and go for a homegrown coach
Eddie Butler

This is looking more and more like a job well within the capabilities of Ron Knee, everyone's favourite ashen faced supremo. It's only four extra players on the pitch, and it's ten minutes less. Tattoo count about the same and floodlights abound. What could possibly go wrong?

PS Couldn't miss a chance for a bit of Frank Keating.

Half way there
Checka makes a good point in his press release.

'there are heaps of guys coaching the same England players on a day-to-day basis in the Premiership, who given the right support could do a really good job.

I suppose its that bit that worries me as the RFU seem like the FA - protect the blazer you wear and the privilege it gives you.

What about Shaun Edwards? He's spent years as no.2 of a successful Welsh side, is he ready for the step up?

His combination with Gatland has worked well - since Wasps days etc. If coaches do get the best from their players, then these two have worked well in tandem. Worth Shaun Edwards having a go if he's so minded, but would he like the 'exposure' that Head Coaches are subject to, I wonder? 'Like' is the wrong word...'be comfortable with' perhaps - he seems a diligent yet private character. His articles are as interesting as those of Dean Ryan, maybe those two should get together!
