Looking for an old quill stem and I stumbled on this. Who in God's name pays that kind of money for that? It's just like the one I'm looking to replace. Then a few lines down, this. What the.....what is going on?

If it's in good condition and rare enough then yes people might go to bidding war for it, have you seen the price of an original ASC sturmey recently?

Old stuff does sell at a premium.

I am trying to get my hands on a Bates bike with cantiflex tubing and dihidrant(sp) forks.

I anticipate that the bits that I need to buy to restore it to a drop handle barred bike with a 3 speed derailleur from its current flat barred single speed status will cost as much as the bike.

It's funny that the old stuff, being now so this-season-hipster-trendy, sells at vastly inflated prices!

Take the humble headset for example - I'd much rather have a modern headset any day - but you can get 'em cheap because they're just so ordinary, dahhhling! Never mind that you can stick them on and do them up in 30 secs flat and they are as strong as buggery ...

Saw an old carradice saddlebag so tatty even the moths had left go for nearly 3 figures!!

I reckon it's the Chinese who want to lose the nouveau riche look.

A lot of the old tat I have sold for silly prices has gone to Japan.

I got £200 for a pair of Lewis Leather motorcycle boots with a broaken zip. The Japanese purchaser was more than happy with his purchase.
