Yello ,Pubrunner and others have suggested it might be a good idea to have a seperate section on classic bikes . I agree it would be excellent. How many others would like to see a seperate section on oldies ?

I think we are talking classic rather than vintage so I imagine 60's to 80's ?

If this was feasable I would be very keen to volunteer my time to contribute and moderate or anything else I can do.

What purpose would it serve which could not already be accommodated elsewhere? All it needs is for people to think a bit more rather than seek new sections, just my opinion. There are many under-used sections on the forum as it is...anyway, what's this doing in Cafe? ;)

There is a Special Interests section...

...but it would depend what you would see the 'new' area focusing on. There is also Gallery for pictures; Know How for, err, Know How; Bikes, Accessories, etc for Questions for any 'What 60's bike should I buy?'....I'm sure there's more; maybe Politics and Life for any questions relating to the impact on the climate of 1970's Peugeot road bikes?

mmm maybe we should get rid of the non biking section like P&L and put classic bikes section in its place ;)

I think Special Interests should cover it. If it's special enough a subject for the question to be asked then surely it is special enough to be covered by Special Interests.

Perhaps a sub-section within Special Interests - that section already has fixed/single-speed and recumbents...there'd be room for one more link - classics.

Classics is not really definable. One man's classic is another man's junk. Another man's classic is Rodger's modern cycle with gears and stuff ;)

No need to split further IMO. But it is just my opinion.

Indeed: a post from the past.

I haven't (as yet) read all the Rory O'Brien thread, but there was no piss-taking, abuse, patronising and it made a very enjoyable read. . . . . . .

. . . . . . . Maybe Roger Hilldodger could share some of his gems, subject to copyright, with us.

Oh good, I can talk endlessly about Raleigh Shoppers;)

I think that a 'Do you remember' section is an excellent idea; I'm not sure why anyone should be 'against' such a proposal.

Surely, if people don't agree with a (proposed) section, then they just don't have to use it ? How many of us use most/all the areas of the site anyway ?

I really enjoyed the Rory O'brien thread & I found the 'Who remembers Don Louis of Herne Hill?' by Dellzeqq to be most interesting. I think that the proposed section could work very well indeed. Problem is, there are a few on this forum who would seek to mock the efforts of those who would take it seriously.

I refer again to DAyvo's apt comments 'there was no piss-taking, abuse, patronising and it made a very enjoyable read'

But that's not what is being asked, and even if it was I would still say there is no need for it.

And as I said my view is that it is not needed for the reasons I already stated.
