I think that a 'Do you remember' section is an excellent idea; I'm not sure why anyone should be 'against' such a proposal.

Surely, if people don't agree with a (proposed) section, then they just don't have to use it ? How many of us use most/all the areas of the site anyway ?

I really enjoyed the Rory O'brien thread & I found the 'Who remembers Don Louis of Herne Hill?' by Dellzeqq to be most interesting. I think that the proposed section could work very well indeed. Problem is, there are a few on this forum who would seek to mock the efforts of those who would take it seriously.

I refer again to DAyvo's apt comments 'there was no piss-taking, abuse, patronising and it made a very enjoyable read'

I endorse Pubrunner's comments: a section dedicated to a bygone age would, in my opinion, be of nostalgic interest to a lot of people.

And if you don't like it, then lump it stay in your own comfort zone and let others enjoy theirs! B)!

I even remember Noodley asking for info on the early TdF races, and that was a good read.

Amazingly I managed to find information in an existing section! B)

Which is my point. People stay in their comfort zones rather than make full use of the forum. e.g. posts in Commuting asking about rain jackets rather than Accessories, etc which would benefit everyone rather than those who inhabit Commuting - if only people would explore a bit!

What purpose would it serve which could not already be accommodated elsewhere? All it needs is for people to think a bit more rather than seek new sections, just my opinion. There are many under-used sections on the forum as it is...anyway, what's this doing in Cafe? B)

Perhaps, but that doesn't mean that the proposed new section would be the same.

I've already explained my reasoning.

I have yet to hear from anyone to explain why it would attract enough attention to warrant it's own section, or why existing sections would not cover 'classic 60s and 70s bikes'.

like everything else on Cycle Chat, anything new and useful or enthusiastically proposed is shot down in flames by the armchair knockers who sit on their flat bottoms, do nothing and critisize others for their efforts and interests.

Remember the LE JOG thread? all the whingers and knockers ruined that after a considerable amount of work had been invested by others.

Where is it now ? yes buried and forgotten because those prepared to do something got fed up with all the armchair whingers and pulled out:angry:

maybe we should just have another thread for trolls and knockers

That is absolute b*ll*cks. Admin works bloody hard to try and take people's ideas on board and keep the place usable. If you think it's so awful, go and find another place with such a variety of folk and topics.

If a thread works, it sticks. If people are put off by knockers, then they just don't care enough.

Ok, so if the poll suggests people would like such a thing (and when I voted, it didn't), ask Admin, and he'll think about it. Don't just strop off because a few people don't agree with you.

Personally, I'd assume classic bikes could fit perfectly into Gallery or Special Interests.

No, I put forward my view.

I'm still waiting to hear why the current areas of the forum could not accommodate '1960s and 1970s bikes'. You can propose enthusiastically but at least back it up with reasoning beyond "I think it's a good idea"...

...if something warrants a new section that's fine by me. I just don't think a section to speak about "Choppers and Shoppers"* does

*there you go, have that title on me if it does go ahead

Well, if you didn't want people's opinions, why did you ask for them?
