Who would like to see a classic bike section?

I've no problem with adding new forums and sub-forums, however it would be good to have a reasonable demand for them beforehand (which, of course, you're trying to gauge here).

Whilst we have thousands of CC'ers, there may currently be only a small number for whom this would be of interest. However, as we grow, so might the interest in discussing Bikes of a Bygone Era and therefore the number of people for whom a separate forum would appeal.

If it doesn't get off the ground this time round, that doesn't mean it won't ever - there's nothing to stop you asking again in the future.

Why should we ? Surely a (proposed) 'Do you remember ?' section concerning older bikes is just as relevant to this site as the Politics section ? This is a bike forum after all.

The Rory O'Brien thread 'worked' well, purely because those that contributed did so in a sensible and sensitive manner. All the postings on that thread were well-thought out and presented in a fashion that I found to be very interesting; I actually felt that I had gained an insight into what it was like to cycle in the 1960s. Yes, it was a thread which in its entirety, was devoid of cynical, facetious and peurile comments -obviously too much for some to take.

If people are put off by knockers, then they just don't care enough.

Nonsense, isn't possible to have sensible and articulate comments on just a small section of this forum, without others trying to trivialise it, purely because they have nothing better to do ?

Using your own expression, why can't the 'knockers' be the ones to 'go and find another place with such a variety of folk and topics'. Should this forum really be seeking to pander to the lowest lowest common denominator ?

Ok, so if the poll suggests people would like such a thing (and when I voted, it didn't), ask Admin, and he'll think about it.

Out of the many hundreds that sign in to this forum, a massive 34 have bothered to vote - that can hardly be used a basis on which to make a decision.

Looking back through my father's old photographs it's striking how many are of the places they visited, the cycles were just an incidental in the picture.

like everything else on Cycle Chat, anything new and useful or enthusiastically proposed is shot down in flames by the armchair knockers who sit on their flat bottoms, do nothing and critisize others for their efforts and interests.

Remember the LE JOG thread? all the whingers and knockers ruined that after a considerable amount of work had been invested by others.

Where is it now ? yes buried and forgotten because those prepared to do something got fed up with all the armchair whingers and pulled out

Re Special Interests: it currently seems to cater for mostly folders. Plenty of room for other Special Interests without need for further division.

As I said earlier, there is plenty of room for all types of interests without having to further compartmentalise the forum. It just takes a bit of thinking rather than having your hand held and led to it....or plonking it in the part of the forum you are most familiar with.

I'm just trying to highlight that IMO there is really no need nor any real drive for it.

thats a perfectly sensible proposal Shaun. The poll was put tounge-in-cheek but as usual there are the usual minority that take any opportunity to flame ,or throw insults like Arch
