Who would like to see a classic bike section?

However, why don't you start a "Bygone bikes and era" thread in special interests and just see how it does?

If it takes off then there's a strong arguement for your idea, if not, they'll be an interesting thread to read

I was never rude at any point. You alleged I was rude to Hover Fly, whereas I was attempting to inject humour into a thread which was getting up it's own arse; if Hover Fly had a problem I'm sure he'd have let me know.

There is much to be said for stumbling across 'gems' rather than steering them to one location. "Gems' in Beginners might just lead to an increase in interest in 'ye olde days'.

Why then, bother with any sections ?

But neither you nor peanut have made any constructive contribution as to why there is a need for a sub-forum, and your assertion that there have been threads in various parts of the forum of great interest to many reinforces that it is not required.

And as to why there are certain sub-sections I do not have the answer, but I'd imagine it's because there is/was the volume to warrant it.

Those with interests in Fixed & Singlespeed and Recumbents & HPV have been allowed their own sub-section.

So why not one for older (say pre 1980) bikes ?

Because there is no demand.

And I never said you were rude nor that you said my views were not sought - what I wrote was that I have been informed to keep quiet and that my views were not sought. So, for you to suggest I had is IMO another example of you 'flaming' (under the definition given by peanut), which was what I said you had done.

We're going round in circles and not really getting anywhere here, so let me intervene.

So far, whilst there is some interest in having a separate sub-forum for Bygone Cycling, there are only a small number of votes on the poll in favour.

This would indicate that there are a handful of people who would use such a sub-forum, but not an overwhelming majority. It doesn't mean the idea doesn't have any merit, just that there is currently a limited scope of interest.

This interest may increase, however, if more discussion is made around the subject and as I said previously, I am not averse to the idea of a sub-forum.

It would help though to have a proven pattern of on-going interest in the topic to support it having it's own specific subject area.

So, here's my proposal:

Start using the Special Interests forum for discussion of Bygone Cycling bikes / topics for now.

If there are regular contributions over the next three months and interest grows, then I will consider creating a separate sub-forum and moving all the relevant threads into it.

If, however, interest wanes, then we can revisit the idea again in another 12 months or so (on the basis that an increase in membership may increase interest in historical cycling threads.)

Yello ,Pubrunner and others have suggested it might be a good idea to have a seperate section on classic bikes . I agree it would be excellent. How many others would like to see a seperate section on oldies ?

I think we are talking classic rather than vintage so I imagine 60's to 80's ?

If this was feasable I would be very keen to volunteer my time to contribute and moderate or anything else I can do.

Hell yes! But how about a folding bike thread (specifically Brompton )
