Totally misread the traffic at the RAB on the way home just now.
Car opposite me on the RAB signalling right, car to my right slows down. I assume he's giving way to his right and think I have time to go before the other car comes round.
Only at the last minute did I realise the car wasn't stopping and was coming right at me.
I gave him an apologetic wave, he waved back in a nice way, and nobody hit anybody. Phew!
Teach me to pay more attention and not be still fuming because a dimwit pulled right out at me earlier.

We all make mistakes, and a quick 'sorry mate' can sort out alot

We all have occasional lapses, better on a bike than in a cement truck admittedly but all it needs 99% of the time is a quick apologetic wave and smile, hopefully the driver will go on their way with a more positive view of cyclists than if they'd encountered one of the 'bikes can do what they like and are never in the wrong' gang.

Absolutely! I'm normally much more cautious on RAB's in general, and that one in particular - especially after a recent near miss.(driver's fault not mine) Just lately I've been getting braver about finding a gap, but I'll be watching and waiting in future rather than taking a chance.

Glad you are ok - I've had the thinking about something that has just happened rather than fully on the situation in front of me moments too!! It's very easy to get distracted that way.

Communicatiion is a bit like publicity. There's no such thing as bad communication (allegedly). I've established a bit of rapport with drivers (actually more motorbikes) when I've dropped the ball and immediately apologised, even to a point when a motorbike then proceeded to stuff it up at another junction only to stop and apologies with a "oops, my turn".

I nearly jumped a massive red on the Old Kent road(out of stupidity) only to circle back to the stop line with an embarrased "sorry guys" to the riders all perched on the line, I got a round of chuckles for that and a couple of "nice one fella" as waved them all through to take pole as the lights went green.

We all appreciate it when another person realises that they've made a mistake, it distinguishes us from those who have less of a clue.

I find getting past roundabouts pretty tough when you've got a never ending stream of cars waiting at the entry to your right because they're usually pretty opportunistic and if you're too cautious about finding a gap you'll never get one, yet if you're not careful enough you'll get hit.
