Mods plz delete and ban, there are rules for lager-making that go back millions of years in Eastern Europe, "bitter" or "real ale" is for ghastly pint-squinters who wear corduroy trousers that go "VEET! VEET!" as they walk along, people who like real ale own beards and ugly dogs. Dreadful people.

I don't think the driver ever really got onto the brakes before impact. The sound is more like overrun/engine braking than forced deceleration, though it's hard to tell without being there.

I think we are all ignoring how f***** dangerous this behaviour is. All london streets have pedestrian and cycle traffic, and according to the telegraph this "particular Aventador had been racing all day." I'm grateful no one was hurt (idiot driver excepted).
A friend of mine was a school teacher (in Australia), and a boy racer had been driving up and down a hilly dual carriage way because if you hit one of the bumps at the right speed, you got air. My friend's teenage student was in a car innocently doing a right hand turn as the light turned amber, and boy racer slammed into passenger door and killed her instantly.
The guilty driver was not injured.
(aside: the cops told the girls father that the boy would get off without jail time, and offered to leave them alone together. He turned down the offer.)

I did apportion some blame to the emerging car but surely if he is pulling out into town traffic there is a fair presumption that such traffic will be doing 30mph. You judge the gap and even judge clear road by some estimate of the speed of the traffic on that road.
Pulling out you have to look two ways - which you cannot do at the same time. So you look one way, see it is clear and look the other way. The first bit of info is now possibly out of date but you rely on estimated speed to know the gap is still there and pull out.
In towns we endlessly have peds, cyclists, cars, buses etc pulling out in front of us and need to drive to expect this. I would not want to be driving anywhere near you if you are not allowing for this in the way you drive. You cannot blindly steam along with your "right of way" (which actually does not exist in the highway code you merely have priority) and put everyone else at risk.
