Why are scruffy bikes so good to ride ?

Despite being a hatefully heavy bag of sh1te, which is too small for me, I love riding my Raleigh Ascender. I suspect this is because the first 'proper' bike I had was a Raleigh Activator, an equally dreadful machine in hindsight, but nostalgia is a helluva drug.

You can forget damaging them and just enjoy the ride.

My nice bikes are nice to ride, but I worry about punctures, paint scratches, rust.

My aluminium hack bike with M+ is a joy and gets abused. Never let me down.
