Why can't I read all Amazon reviews?

I've just received an email from Amazon telling me that my request to see all reviews on a particular product has been denied. Leaving aside that I'd forgotten all about making the request (or indeed which product it was) I'm a little surprised.

What's the point of having reviews if you can't read them? Has something untoward been masked from public view? Or perhaps it's something I've done (like signing up to Prime once too often and canceling it before the 30 days free is up)

It's probably because they've detected that those reviews are either fake, or AI bots. Another reason could be that the seller has been bribing people to leave 5* reviews. This has happened to me twice now, I've returned an item and got a full refund. Then weeks later the company offer me a £30 voucher to either leave a good review or to simply delete my honest 1* or 2* review.

I used to read reviews but find two things extremely unhelpful or irritating.

First is people who leave reviews the second the item lands on the doorstep. What the heck good is that ? That only tells me the seller shipped promptly...not how good the item is..or isnt, which is the very thing i want to know.
This kind of review is utterly pointless imho.

Then theres a newer kind, gushingly telling you how good the item is. This smacks and screams of fake reviews. The tone of reviews has changed completely...

I find myself using reviews less and less now.

Thanks for the replies. I was aware of fake reviews etc, and false 5s but kinda baffled by what is, for me anyway, a new thing. Why hide reviews, invite you to view them and then say 'nah, you can't'?

I'm amused by reviews that say things like 'just opened the box, looks good but I haven't used it yet, 5 stars' I mean wt actual f! I do read 1 star reviews though, to look for any commonalities.

......Just ordered a nice bag from you, hope my Nikon with the 150 - 600mm lens fits in fitted to my DSLR, it says it will though 😁👍👍
Very fast dispatch as it was dispatched within a couple of hours of ordering it, I'm definitely impressed and hope Royal Mail are as efficient lol 😁👍👍....

You do tend to get emails asking for reviews, when you have only just received an item. Not just Amazon either. I was asked to review a cycle tyre I bought. I had had the item about 5 mins, let alone tried to fit it, and ridden any distance. No feedback from me until I have ridden it some. Maybe no feedback if you keep pestering me for feedback. Maybe no more custom if the emails keep coming.
