It's almost impossible to avoid this if you get sucked into the CC bantz over time. For eg. I know roughly where you live and roughly the business you're in. Not as much info as Drago (he's very sloppy) but enough to be going on with

My user name must be one of the thinnest disguised real names on Cyclechat since @Cycling Naturalist changed his. And that's because it's not supposed to be disguised. It is the same version of my real name that I have used on multiple forums since the tail end of the DOS era when you were limited to 8 characters.

The reason for this is that I decided long ago that as a matter of integrity I wanted my online presence to be true to my real values and identity. I understand the arguments for an unidentifiable alias for security reasons. But the downside is that you then insidiously become a different persona online. There are people who present on Cyclechat as really unpleasant, but who I am assured are delightful in the flesh. I, by contrast, may be equally unpleasant, but at least I'll be equally unpleasant here as on a FNRTTC or a Piecnic. And the guarantee of that is that everything I say here, I know can be readily identified with the real-life me.

I think the world would be a better place if there were no such thing as online anonymity. Nevertheless, I await a message from the @Moderators asking me to change my username because it contravenes Cyclechat rules

Of course, my final line of defence is my name. I share my name with a particularly infamous American (so infamous that when in the states many people thought I was taking the pish), so even if someone with bad intent got hold of my name it would be zero use to them on any search engine

Uses a private hospital in Milton Keynes. Travelled to France by night ferry on 20 June (DFDS 0050hrs ferry out of Dover. Returned on DFDS from Calais on Sunday 25 june c.2200) and visited Euro Disney on 22 and 23 June , stayed in a cabin (/on the Euro Disney site?) did a 1kg burger challenge at Euro Disney on 23 June. Has "Brexit - Stick it up your Juncker" t-shirt. One female child with a 100% school attendance record. Picture is self and daughter posted on internet forum.

(As a complete aside: As part of the process of claiming Grandfather rights to A UK passport, a great nephew in Zimbabwe, tracked down on line the 1958 passenger manifest of the ship my brother travelled on to Rhodesia (Via SA) which gave his future UK occupation in Rhodesia as a Government employee, which was a key element in his successful claim. You were a copper. Would all that info mean you were traceable? There's about 10 leads I could do some digging (ie phone calls) and find out who you are.

I also post on another cycling forum that's more mountain bike orientated and sometimes people go on there asking if anybody knows X who bought some bits they advertised on the forum's classifieds but hasn't coughed the lolly. Within minutes the pitchfork mob have assembled and it's terrifying how much they are able to find out about the sinner by making a couple of simple assumptions and looking at the person's social media, Strava, and any other stuff in the public domain. I don't use social media and I'm cautious about revealing my immediate location on here although I'm sure there are plenty of clues for anybody who's got the time to research me.
