Why different users names ?

Of course, my final line of defence is my name. I share my name with a particularly infamous American (so infamous that when in the states many people thought I was taking the pish), so even if someone with bad intent got hold of my name it would be zero use to them on any search engine

Well i'm really peed off! For some reason i've not been able to log into the Accrington Stanley fans forum for a while,so i set up a new account with a similar name. My first post was accepted but when i tried to log in a while ago this came up.....

Maybe you got someone worked out your password, logged in as you and posted spam.

But how would they get your password???

Do any of you use different passwords for different accounts? If so how do you remember them?. Ok you probably have them written down or have a good memory,but i'd lose the paper they were written down on or forget them if they were in my head, so i use my dad's Christian name for all my passwords.

The spam thing is obviously a convenient and believable excuse, I think they saw your shall I put washing up liquid in the washing machine thread, and have concluded you are way too much of a loose canon to have around the fans forum, being a bad influence to those young, impressionable Accrington fans

I don't know what's happened but i'm seriously pissed off with them. I e-mailed the moderator of the forum when i couldn't post the first time. He didn't bother to reply. If i've said something wrong then i'd like them to bloody well tell me and not just ban me!

There's one site where the name had to be something I'd not used anywhere else. Other than that, I've stuck to two.

I was an accredited cyber crime investigator, which was an eye opener.

I use a different user name on every forum, ....

As a consequence chucking my real name, email address, forum username etc into Google brings up nothing about me aside from the one forum searcher already knew about.

It would also be impossible to find information by trying to cross reference device Mac addresses, email addresses, IP details etc.

Never say never, but why make it easy for an idiot/stalker/foreign intelligence service to track you down?

I only quoted it because it has been quoted multiple times before, so it was already going to require moderator intervention to remove. I would have quickly removed mine if he had replied "omg, yes. I'll delete it. I can't believe that I was so stupid"

Honestly, I nearly just reported it so the moderators could delete it and quoting posts, it seemed such a no brainer, but politeness got in the way.

TL;DR: you can't help some people.

I have changed my username a couple of times, both based on potential nutjobs maybe knowing a bit too much about me via online stuff, but people still refer to my previous names every now and again, so I just accept that they are nobbers and I might die as a result of their nobbery...
