Why do cars horn without anyone knowing why. Are they acknowledging a mate or what. If they stopped to explain themselves then I wouldn't consider them wimps.

Because they are knobs and hate cyclists

Because you are all over the road

Because they like cyclists and giving you a friendly toot

Because their mates across the road and are giving them a friendly toot

Because they are warning you or another road user of a hazard

Who knows really.

To tell me I should be riding on a cycle path

[Troll]I ride a bike and also drive a car

I find it annoying when other cyclist do not wave or greet me when we pass each other on the road

Therefore I apply my own standards not only do I always greet other cyclists when on the bike, lest I be criticised for not greeting other cyclists, I beep my horn at them[/troll]

Why do nouns verb?
Horn is a verb.

I'm not sure which sense is being used above, though
(thank you Oxford Dictionary)

It's the most essential piece of automotive equipment down here.

Used to summon a shop assistant to fill your order as you sit in the 4wd.

To open your gate as you arrive at your house.

You couldn't do without it!
