Why do I get numb toes

As the title suggests after a good ride my toes get numb. I thought over winter it may have been the cold so bought over shoes but I am still getting this now the weather has turned.

I think my shoes fit ok. Has anyone else suffered this or has any tips?
I'm doing triathlon training at the minute and the numbness clears after about 0.5k if I run off the bike.

Shoe fit, having your foot clipped in the same position, cleat position, some sort of muscle/joint imbalance in the leg/ankle/foot, pronation of foot etc. I get it, more in the right foot because it's the one I don't unclip, although it's my left knee/leg/ankle/foot that's knackered

Stop and get off the bike more often, or at least unclip both feet, look at shoes, socks, position. You may also find that it's ever thus whatever you do. It appears a fairly common issue

What shoes do you have? Are they either very stiff (carbon soles) or perhaps not stiff enough (cheaper SPDs). How quickly does it come on?
Have you had a bike/cleat fit done? If not, might be worth investing

Where do you go about getting a cleat fit done to be honest I just stuck them on and lined them up to be comfy. I might ask our club if any of them can do a bike fit as well as I am constantly adjusting my seat hight (mainly up).

Cycling specialist physiotherapist is my choice

Let's assume this is not cold induced numbness - that's what the OP has said.
I found that getting a good pair of insoles in stiff but not carbon road shoes (SPD-R cleats) made a big difference. Still get it a bit but much, much better (ie 600 over weekend). I bought 'Superfeet (yellow)'. I deliberately flex my forefoot as often as I think about it to minimise the adverse effect.
Could be too tight, but the OP would surely know that, and have tried someone else's on, or cycle with no socks (say after swimming).
Cleat position: Longitudinally needs to align with your natural 'fall of foot' on the pedals. Put the cleats on but with the bolts a bit loose and see what feels right. Then tighten them in that position (easier said than done). As far as how far forward/back the cleats should be, having read Steven Hogg's article power-to-the-pedal-cleat-position, mine are as far back as they can go, and this seems particularly beneficial for triathlete types who are going to have to run straight after a hard ride.
What are triathlon shoes ?
Triathlon shoes normally describe road shoes that have velcro fastenings that 'go the wrong way' (and often only two straps but wide ones) so you can jump on the bike after the 'end of transition' line (the shoes are already clipped onto the pedals) and get some speed on before inserting feet (individually) and slapping over the straps (reaching down from the saddle). At the end of the cycle stage, reverse the process, straps off (and they fall to the outside and thus don't foul the cranks/chainring), feet out and on top of the shoes ready to dismount and run into transition.

I had the same issue when using SPDs. I changed to Crank Brothers and have had no problems since. Same shoes but the cleats on Crank Brothers connect to eggbeaters in the middle of the platform. I suspect the SPDs were taking all of the weight on the cleat whereas the cleats on Crank Brothers spread allowing the platform to take the weight. I have used Mallet (Large platform) and Candy (Much Smaller platform) CB pedals with the same result.

I was getting the same isues with my old mtb shoes switched over to a stiffer sole and a more fitted shoe with the same spd fitment and not had an issue did a 50 mile ride the day after I got them and have since done a 65 and another 50 no numbness at all.

I did find out when they fitted the cleats that I have a dropped instep so they correct that with the placement of the cleats which may of helped.

Mine are or were down to cleat position..
And cold ..i have larger size cycling shoes so my feet can move.
All above advice is all good..bar the flat pedal one lol..

I had a similar issue once I played around with different socks and cleat position. I just put it down to the cold. I then tried this, as advised by Sean Conway and it helped strangely
