The problem with forums (and texting, emails, messenger etc) is that as there is no tone and posters tend to presume a lot will be understood much gets misunderstood and offence is taken.

Yes, strictly speaking it isn't a fact, but if you don't project, then you are weird

I don't like to trouble people with problems I have, and very rarely talk about problems, even big ones. I'm not an overly talkative person unless I am with people I know either, but I'm certainly not shy - does this mean I don't project?

Projection is different. There are various kinds and they all occur subconsciously. One typical kind occurs when there is an aspect of a person's personality that they find unacceptable (for whatever reason) and which is therefore suppressed (out of conscious awareness). The person may then subconsciously attribute that personality trait to another person or other people, regardless of whether or not that person or those people actually have that particular trait.
