We used to holiday at Hemsby in the 60s. It then had:
An amusement arcade (just the one).
A bingo hall (the Jackolite).
A pub.
A few shops for milk, groceries and beach goods.
A couple or so caravan sites.
A number of wooden chalet bungalows in the dunes.
A place to hire four wheel pedal bikes (the country lanes were full of these, groups of people pedalling frantically and going very slowly).
A van selling shrimps in the evening.
Acres of sand dunes and sandy beach.
Apart from the pub, everything else was just wooden shacks. The village itself, such as it was (a handful of buildings and an abandoned railway station), was a short distance away.
A look at streetview shows a rather different resort today.
