Oaf on a Bike
I agree Klaus, but possibly with different "odds" at different places

When i picked up cycling again and realised my teenage years MTB was in need of replacing, with little knowledge my first port of call was Halfords and i think it was in the process of reading about the Carrera Subway online that i found plenty of Halfords scare stories and talk of poor budget bikes, tried my LBS and the guy in the shop had me convinced i wanted a Giant Escape "700c urban hybrid". I ended up buying a Giant Roam (the Escape with lockable front shocks-ish) because it was heavily discounted online which incidentally i think was a better option for me and it turned up just needing handlebars/front wheel attaching and has been excellent. That said, when i checked the retailer online there were a large number of negative comments.

If i were to buy another bike, id probably go online again simply for being able to get 40%+ off a last season model without haggling in a shop which i hate. Show me the price and i choose whether or not to buy it

freddieflinstone, does your local shop not sell bikes to suit you?
