Why is a Triban 3 suitable only for "up to 45 miles"?

Having seen this budget bike recommended a few times on here I'm curious to know why Decathlon say it's suited to rides "up to 45 miles".
Does it turn back into a pumpkin if you ride it further ... 46 miles?
Not that I've ever actually ridden 40 miles in one go ... yet.

I've had my MTB for a year and my tourer for 3 months. I occasionally lust after a road bike. Then I have a drink and calm down again .

I've no idea, but it's complete Beua Larques, I saw at least two people ride the London / Surrey 100 on these bikes last August, and few of them on 80 plus mile Sportives. They are a very popular bike, and by all accounts GVFM.

The product description is nonsense, what are they going on about, "Outings on the Triban 3 should be up to 45 miles, this Road Bike has 24 speeds." what the....
You can do whatever the hell mileage you want.
It may be that the riding position isn't as refined as a more expensive bike, but you could ride a 10 year old steel bike, or any bike for a 100 miles if it is setup properly - to match the rider.

Go for it.

I noticed Decathlon also tend to add distances and times on some of the other road bikes.
The Triban 5 seems to be only comfortable for upto 3 hour rides, after that it's going to be a pain in the rear i suppose ^_^

Go on, tilt your head!
What a load of rubbish, setting a distance limit on a bike LOL

Well I saw somebody had one on the FNRttC just gone and he did at least 60 miles on his! I don't recall it self destructing at any point...

It's a proper pukka bike for the price of some fairly average wheels. And it probably prefers kilometres anyway. One of the guys in our club has one. Everyone took the pish, he kicked their arses, now not so much pish taking.

he is right - I had one and changed the wheels for some cheap Shimano RS10's - it went a lot further than 45 miles :-)

Decathlon had the same sort of thing with their cycling shorts/tights. They used to number them 5, 7 and 9, I think, and each pair would go further than the other. They're now numbered 500, 700, 900 and the number/distance has now disappeared, at least from their website. Only to reappear on their bikes, it seems.
