Why is it always 10:10 in Adworld?

I like them, very nice.

They are the Swiss Railway watches and clocks, the same design as used at the stations etc. They are expensive, but at the same time, they are, clean, simple and elegant things, and very unlike these horrible big chunky watches people seem to like so much.

I forgot to mention, only a few places in the UK sell them. There is a place in Glasgow that does and it is where I've bought the wall clock and a wrist watch (they also do battery changes, repairs, sell straps etc), but I don't know about elsewhere.

Call me strange if you like, but like the feeling of going into a shop and buying one on the spot though.

I actually have 5 different versions of Mondain watches and clocks in total, and only one I've ever bought off Ebay, 2 I've bought in Switzerland, and 2 in Glasgow.

The first one I got was one of the (original old flat glass design) classic white faced wrist watches in 1999 whilst in Zurich (where they are made). The next time I was in Switzerland I bought one of the flat glass white faced pocket watches from Chur railway station (they sell them at the main stations and everything!), which I used for quite a few years. I then got a black faced 'Designer' Chronograph off Ebay. Then, a couple of years ago, I got the black wall clock from the shop in Glasgow, and then, finally one of the black faced wrist watches (with a red strap), but with the newer curved glass design.

All but the 'designer' one are versions of the Swiss Railway watch.

I like them. Can you tell?

my guess would be that symmetry is deemed to look better, an upward angle is better than a downward angle and the two hands frame the makers name.

Also in car adverts the number plates use letters and numbers that can be flipped to look the same when reserved, so the same advert can be run for left and right handed cars.

My watch has matching hands. Having them different lengths just didn't look right.

It's the same reason why you should photograph bikes from the right hand side with the chain on the big ring and the RH pedal forward; convention.

I used to have a load of watches, I collected them, a few years ago I sold them all, but one. A man with one watch will always know the time, a man with two watches will never be quite sure.

So now I have one nice watch which I shall keep for a while, and then when I see something I like better I shall sell the current one and get the new watch. Probably.
