Odd, I always thought they were called safety bicycles. :whistle:
the safety bicycle was the start of what we consider a standard bicycle shape now, it was safety as opposed to the Penny Farthing, or Ordinary, bicycle which was the popular type at the time with its inherent dangers getting on and off and being so high from the ground if you took a tumble.
