Bird table update; worth sticking with, we're awash with garden birds now, all sorts, new arrival yesterday was a chaffinch. :becool:

I'll see your chaffinch and I'll raise you one greater spotted woodpecker.

Did my first proper country road cycle the other week and a peacock darted out in front of me nearly making me crash before gracefully flouncing off. Don't think I'd see that in the city.

Actually it's three greater spotted woodpeckers with ideas above their station.

They are picky eaters and will only eat Waitrose bird fat thingies. They shun the RSPB stuff and will deign to eat sunflower seeds in preference to it.

We're doing quite well for variety: house sparrows, blue tits, robins, blackbirds, chaffinch and I believe a songthrush. And pigeons. Ours have standards, we tried a cheap bird food mix found once and they weren't interested.

We've got all of those plus, nuthatches, siskins, bull finches, green finches, chaffinches coal tits, magpies, a sparrowhawk responsible for the death of two pigeons, collared doves, nesting wrens, jays and starlings.
