widest tyres

Hi I have acquired a Claud Butler San Remo,does anyone know the widest tyres I can fit,I want to be able to ride canal paths or similar.The bike has 700 x 23 tyres at the moment

Probably not the best choice of bike for canal paths tbh, as it was designed for tarmac. You might get 25s on it if you are lucky. Unlikely that you will be able to fit anything other than slicks...

Try Schwalbe Marathon Plus 700 x 25. They ride well on tarmac and they can handle canal paths.

To update,I had a look in the shed and found two tyres,fitted them,seem to ride ok, 700 x 32 Specialised.
Will post a photo when I get my camera back.
