It's all the talk about crowds, collisions and the route being messed about with, doesn't sound as much fun as just going for a ride.

I agree. There's also lots of talk amongst some about how dangerous and stupid cycling is. It depends on who you listen to and what % of the big picture it makes.

As do the locals, who hate these events and are prone to distributing drawing pins, broken glass and all manner of helpful detritus to support the riders in their quest to learn how to fix a puncture.

It is a small minority of idiots that try to disrupt the event. There hasn't been any sabotage for a while now, they just try to make it difficult to host. The organisers are residents in the NF, so it's just that the equine contingent want to keep it as their back garden. They are losing and as such these events need to continue to remind them that there are others that live here, and as a National Park they must learn to share.
