Wild Parakeets

In Bromley, (as we have in many parts of London), there are hundreds of feral Green Ring-necked Parakeets. Causing all sorts of trouble, the noisy blighters decimated various neighbours Plum, Apple & Pear harvests last year.

Anyway Mrs Ian just called to say one flew into the conservatory and proceeded to crash and thrash about making the most horrendous screeching noise whilst trying to escape. She used a broom to push it into the direction of the open door, however it decided to sit on one of the blades of the fan, screech rather loudly and do a huge crap before deciding to fly out.

should have been eradicated way before it got to this level, imo as an ecologist

They're lovely to see, but even as a bird lover I have to agree they shouldn't be here.

I did wonder how many of these introduced species would fare with such a harsh Winter, like the aggressive wall spiders (I assume you get those in Bromley too) but obviously the Parakeets have done OK.

It was probably burping uncontrollably - one of the disadvantages of a 'polly carbonate' conservatory roof!

And these birds are a threat to the starling population, there's not enough foodstuffs to go round because the 'parrots ate 'em all'.

C'mon mate.. you've met Mrs Ian.. she has to stand on a stool to switch a light on, let alone reach up for the fan pull

They have been an increasing nuisance in the borough for years. I reported the problem to the RSPB a couple of years back, as I suspected them of defoliating the beautiful mature trees in the Ravensbourne area, but they said there was insufficent evidence to cull the buggers. I think this hard winter may have killed a few off, as I haven't heard so many of them yet.

There are still plenty about mate. Agree with the Ravensbourne area. There are a huge amount of the birds in the Golf Course/Millwall training ground.
