I'd pretty much settled on a Trek Madone 3.5 (always liked and riddenTreks) but then Cycling Plus named the Focus as their bike of the year and I really liked the sound and look of it too but then my mate, who's a bit of an officianado when it comes to bikes said about the Wilier, which, again is a really great bike, now I don't what to do. Has anyone any expeience with any of these or recommendations? Because I'm now completely confused:wacko:. Thanks, your advice is much appreciated.

I'd look at Canyon bikes.

I started a thread a few days ago about Canyon:

If I get a new bike (no plans for this at present), then I would deffo be looking at getting one from Canyon.

Look at the specs of the bikes you have named and then compare similar spec with Canyon, and I would think you'll find much better prices for the canyon bike - or look at the prices of the bikes you have named, then look at the spec you'd get from Canyon for the same price.

And I would also say much better wheels! Wheels tend to be the one thing most bike manufacturers "save" on.

Your definitely on a Canyon mission aren't you Noods ^_^ I've got to say they do seem to offer great VFM. One of the guys at work is very interested in the £2K Ui2 model. My only concern is where are they scrimping? To bring a bike in at that price point has to mean scrimping somewhere.

When I bought my Focus Cayo Pro in 2009 it was £2200 and had full DA. Now a DA gruppo was circa £1500 on it's own. The finishing kit was all in house Focus, (Concept), the wheels turned out to be made of cheese, and ultimately the frame proved to be cheaply manufactuered.

Not saying any of this applies, and as cf bikes go the Canyon's do look very good, but there has to be a trade off somewhere. Granted they've taken the middleman out of the equation, but this is only what Focus did originally by appointing Wiggle sole distributor.

If the frames prove to be as good as their VFM then they are very hard to argue against. What would swing it for me if I wanted a cf bike would be the relative exclusivity. I hate riding the same bike as everyone else, that's what originally attracted me to Focus, and even now I've only seen one other CAAD10 on the road in almost 12 months, and it was a different spec anyway ^_^

No scrimping at all, quite the opposite from what I can see! A choice of SRAM, Campag and Shimano groupsets, Ritchey components, and Mavic wheels.

They sell direct to the public from their website so no middlemen retailer mark-ups - there can be waiting time for some models and sizes, so that may be a downside. And also you won't be able to try before you buy...not an issue for me.

I remember the same kind of "they must be scrimping" comments being made when wiggle first introduced the sub-£1000 Focus Cayo.

The main area where bike manufacturers scrimp is on groupsets and wheels...no sign of Sora or Tiagra with Canyon who have 105 as their entry level groupset; and the options for wheels start with Aksiums on their entry level bike, no sign of "no name" hubs and rims there either!

Like I said, they do seem to offer fantastic VFM, but with top brand name options dripping off each bike I'd need a large chunk of reassurance about frame quality as that's the only place left to save money, but I haven't researched anything about their frames as I'm not in the market to buy one, and Focus proved what could be done, perhaps Canyon have simply taken it to the next level, I certainly hope so.

If everything turns out to be as good as it all seems then I think all the big names have got something to worry about.

If I was in the market, and if I did want a cf bike then I'd be seriously tempted. Thank goodness they don't do a high level alu bike or I might be in trouble ^_^

Oh, I don't know, this one seems not bad, with Ultegra electronic shifters:

Hideous colour tho.

I might have to buy a CF version just to prove I am right

In the words of James May, COCK!

Did you have too ^_^ I'm just glad that a) it's a hideous colour as you say, and b) I'm well and truly skint. Otherwise I may not be held responsible for my actions
