Hitting a ball round a field with a stick, what a waste of time ......^_^
I tried it but I kept falling off my bike^_^

I don't like cricket or rugby either, but they do both involve significant physical exertion, speed, and/or endurance, and you'd be on shaky ground trying to claim either were not really sport. Golf? It has little more claim to the title than open air darts
That's only if you subscribe to the rather snobbish view of what constitutes sport. It's simple really, if it's on the back pages it's sport.

If you're a cyclist then you will not take up golf as the two don't mix, but on the other hand it could be one way to make cars give you some room when overtaking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I used to go to pitch and putt with a wedge and a putter taped to my crossbar - worked well. Better if you remembered to bring the roll of tape to put them back on when you'd finished, otherwise it wasn't so clever.

If it's on the back pages then nine times out of ten it's professional football or lifestyle crap about the people who play it.

I don't like Golf but having played it (or at least tried to!), I can assure you it takes a hell of a lot of skill and if you aren't used to it, you will be tired by the time you're back in the car park after whacking a ball around for all 18 holes.

I was out on a little par-3 golf course the other day,
and a fellow got so frustrated he threw his club a good 15 yards.
I think people who take golf that seriously are wrapped a bit too tight for cycling.

Fifteen yards, what an amateur. The last time I played golf I launched a putter and it must have gone for about fifty yards nearly taking out some people on another green. That's when I decided I should probably give up the game and haven't played since!

So it's a game of skill mixed with a long walk in unnatural countryside.

sport (spôrt, sprt)
n.
1.
a. Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
b. A particular form of this activity.
2. An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
3. An active pastime; recreation.

I think golf fits those criteria.

I cycle non-competiviely and it perfectly possible to cycle without too much exertion (I have been doing so for years:whistle:). Is cycling a sport? To me it's a mode of transport or sort of faster, mechanised walking.

That definition is so fuzzy it's unbelievable, chess, tiddlywinks and bar billiards all fit those criteria, to mention just a few.
