I really like (note, in a 'proper' context ) the usage of 'like' in contexts like (there I go again!) the above. For me, it illustrates a type of internal, or mental perhaps, reference. That is, 'like' becomes a marker indicating that you're referring or comparing one situation/notion to another. I find it illustrative of the thought process that is not normally so apparent.

I could say the same about "virtually", which is generally used to mean "I am exaggerating tenfold"

I see he has also donated his fee for the Voice to charity, top bloke. No sign of a certain Mr Jones doing the same. The other two you might excuse, (if you wanted to), due to their young age and relatively less accrued wealth than Mr.I.Am and Mr T.Jones.
