Will Microsoft ever change?

I'm using Hormail less and less and moving more towards Gmail. The only thing I really dislike though about Gmail is its horrendous Conversation View. Luckily you can turn it off on the desktop version, but not unfortunately on the Android App.
But you don't have to use the android app, you can use any mail app you like. I use K9, but not for gmail as I hardly ever use that, so don't care about the interface.

Don't forget to run "Never10" if you are being prompted for upgrades. It's a run once to disable the update, and remove all the installation files that will be sat there waiting for you to say Yes.
Or this, GWX control panel, download the "stand alone" version and make your own choices. http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/

As the old saw goes.....

On the internet, if you're not paying for the product then you are the product.

For different reasons I went to look at the website of our largest mobile phone provider. Their most promoted phone costs £28 pet month, for a 24 month contract. That's almost £700. And people still complain about an email setup for £20.

That won't happen, according to Microsoft VP and former Insider Program lead Gabe Aul:

Consumer upgrades have never made much money for MS. The idea behind Windows as a service is to get away from big upgrades every few years to make it easier for MS to provide security updates and present a single platform for developers to target.

You dont actually believe that do you. Microsoft will find away to monetize it.

They already do monetize it by selling software to enterprises and licences to device manufacturers and taking a cut of app sales though the store. Apple don't charge for upgrading from Snow Leopard to El Capitan.

Try this ti disable the ads, sometimes it works (suggestion only).

- Have you seen the Turn off button at the bottom right of your Inbox page? Click Turn off and select Don't show public content from third-party networks

You can also install adblocker software.

I have an ad blocker, which is what the message to upgrade to get more space is about.

Doesn't look like I have the buttons on your screen grab, possibly because it's a MacBook running an Apple operating system.

I also wonder if my current set-up would work better on a bigger screen than the Mac's, which I think is 11 point something inches.

CMD-(minus) should show you what you'd see on a bigger screen.

Thanks, that could be a simple solution.

Smaller text, but it does remove the need for me to scan left to right in the inbox to read messages.

I've just done this screen grab of what it was like.

I assume the upgraded version would give me the space down the right hand side currently occupied by the upgrade message.

Let's hope this works:
Why don't you just use the Mac Mail app and add your hotmail account to it? It's dead easy and it works OK with Hotmail. I don't like Outlook on the Mac much, although I use the other Office stuff.

http://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/mac-software/set-up-hotmail-on-mac-os-x-3628423/
As I posted upthread, I tried that a couple of years ago, but several times it didn't harvest every message, leaving them unread in the hotmail inbox.

This meant I still had to check the hotmail inbox, so the mail app was just an added complication.

I too was "upgraded" last week and lost several attachments to emails. Eventually had to give microsoft remote access to my computer to get it sorted.
