 I Ran the Wilmslow half marathon last Sunday .
And managed to complete the course . As my knee gave way at the 7 mile marker  .
I struggled badly to finish with lots of kind encouragement from all   .
It was a lovely and memorable day for the Runners and Spectators . The weather was kind to us no wind cool then sunny .
I ran along with 400 other Macmillan Cancer Support , runners and raised £ 350.
So now thats out of the way I will be going back to cycling for fitness and leisure and pleasure .
 With some camping trips Incorporated .
"Aint Life brilliant when your a pensioner "   :becool: :hello:

Well done, Zizag. Did this myself back in the day and have a 1.12 time there. I'd struggle to do that on me bike nowadays!

My wife ran it. Her first half marathon. Now she wants to do a full marathon  Well done on your run.

Remind her a full marathon is most assuredly not double the effort of a half marathon. Tell her that in a marathon, physically speaking, the half-way point comes at the twenty mile mark. And I'm being serious. The last 6.2 are every bit as taxing as the first 20.

I told her about the wall. She has got a few friends who run full marathons and they are giving her some helpful advice. Sounds odd but one of them suggested a bit of cross training including cycling to increase overall core strength. I am tempted to get her into some longer distance hilly riding in the Pennines.

By the way 1:12 is a cracking time

 O.K. "Here Is a little story ". Why ! What made me run ?
I only got Into Running by Default In 1981. .
After being an amateur football playing fanatic .
Then I ran for Saint Mary's Special care Baby Unit .( SCBU) Manchester.
As My Daughter was born 3 months premature . Not given very much chance /odds to live .
It was my Insperation to raise money for a very Special cause .
My daughter is almost 30years old . Now fit and healthy and well . So I still run /jog for any charity I can .
P.S
Cyclling is now my main hobby now . Due to a knackered knee , And when I get fit I am hoping to do some cycle rides Somewhere to raise more money for charity's .
Cheers
Tony .  :hello:

Blinking flip. Apart from the now-resolved kerfuffle with your daughter, that could be my script! Same year, same reason but mine's a son and a bit younger than your daughter. The other slight difference is that my first Half was the Pendlebury Children's hospital (spookily, no longer there!) run in September every year but always to raise money for their children's charity.

Running's my all-time favourite sport but I can't do it any more due to accumulated injuries so I find cycling to be a perfectly acceptable substitute. Some cycling events are actually BETTER than a lot of the running events though.

Not that I ever mention it but I've got three faster halves than that! I was just referring to the Wilmslow above, which in March comes a tad too soon for me to be at my best. My best times always came in July/August and September and I have ducked under 70 mins! But I keep quiet about it!

No, that's not me in the picture, although I did take it. That's my hero, Nigel Blackwell.

I play the 'simple' instruments. The banjo and ukelele.
