Windows notebook for secondary school?

Just picked up an Acer ultrabook with £200 off from Amazon ...part of Black 'soon to be all of November' Friday or something?

I bought a couple of Acer Core I3 4GB 500GB Hard drive Windows 10 machines from CCL online for about £290 each for the kids for High School. They've been fine. I had to change our Laptop as well recently and got a similar spec Lenovo one for about the same price and that also has been fine.

I'm very pleased with my Lenovo Ideapad 100S.
Only has 32GB of Flash, but it does take an microSD card, which are dirt cheap.

Dell Latitude e6340 or e6440. Available ex-lease for less than £200 with Intel Core i5 processors and Windows 10. 13.3" display and metal chassis, so plenty of power for stuff that kids do and bombproof too. My girls love theirs.

Check to see if you can get Office 365 for free through the school, too.
