Windows V Android Tablets

Does anyone know if it would be possible to wipe the windows off that tablet and replace it with android?

I've got a big stash of clubcard points and could get one of those for the equivalent of £50.

I think I'll have to look at all my android apps that I use regularly and see if there available on windows, don't fancy starting Candy Crush at level one again though.

I don't think you'd be able to wipe Windows and put Android one it. There was a phone a few years ago, the HTC One X, that could run Windows Mobile and Android but I'm not aware of anything current (unless one of the big Chinese manufacturers have released one).

You don't need to start Candy Crush from scratch, just let it link to Facebook and it stores your progress (plus when you run out of lives just move to a different device: so phone, tablet, ipad and then the phone will have replenished some lives)

I have a nexus 10 from 2012 and never fully liked it when compared to an iPad. The shape was unappealing, the build quality not as good, the aftermarket cover not as nice. But it was also cheaper than the apple products and the android OS was fine for me.

However, now it's slowed down some more and it was never truly fast in the first place (bit recall the price I mentioned earlier).

Compared to windows... Windows seems very slick and android still has a slightly cartoon-like feel to it though it doesn't detract from its intended use and I really like Google's integration with the various apps. Windows I think (but haven't used it enough to give an informed opinion) still lacks useful apps.

I have since replaced my nexus 10 with a small skinny laptop running windows 10; I've always preferred laptops anyway.

it would really depend on whether it can be unlocked and how IT literate you are. If it is unlockable (? does that exist as a word) and a suitable boot rom found for you to be able to flash it, then yes, but you really need to know what you are doing otherwise you could end up bricking it and well it would be useless to you...

I don't think you'll be in luck finding a rom anyway. Most custom ROMs seem to be produced by the guys over at XDA (although obviously there's MIUI and Cyanogenmod doing it too) and I doubt they'll be spending time on a Tesco Windows tablet.

wondering if anyone had made the switch from Android to windows, and what did you think of it?

Technically I haven't switched but I have iPad, Windows phone and previously had Android phones and devices. I much prefer the iPad for general browsing, but that is merely because it has a big screen. If the Windows phone were the size of the iPad I'd happily use that instead. All the Apps I need are on the windows store. The only thing that's a niggle is the 3rd party e-bay app which doesn't really do saved searches. But apart from that everything is sweet.

I do not like Android though, whether on phones or tablets.

I rang Tesco for confirmation and they said they were discontinuing it due to high failure rate.

My little girl has had one for a year though and it never seems to freeze as some android tablets seem to do.

I've been using an Android tablet for a few years - but now that Win 10 is out my next one will probably be Windows. I've got Win 10 on most of our computers and as an OS I prefer it. Candy Crush Soda (much better than the original in the franchise) is now available on Win10, and synchronisable via an email login only - so no need to link up to Facebook.

But for a phone I'll stick with Android - what I've seen on Win 10 on phones looks ugly and clunky. It needs the bigger space of a tablet screen to show itself off, I think.

Well I got one in the end, and it's actually a lot better than I thought it would be.

After getting used to not having a home button it's just like a mini laptop.

Faster than I'd imagined it would be as well.

Mrs M has a Windows phone, and likes it a lot - if I wasn't so embedded in Google services & Android, I'd seriously think about one myself.

At least in its version 8 incarnation, it runs really well on modest hardware, and has quite a nice, novel interface.

The linked tablet looks to be good value, but if you're banking on particular apps being available, you should check that they (or suitable alternatives) are available. OTOH, maybe think "This is the same price as a 7" Nexus" and accept the app compromises.

I got a Galaxy Tab A 9.7 yesterday instead. I did seriously consider the Windows one but EE came in with an offer for the Samsung. So far so good, I prefer it to the iPad so that is being reconfigured to be purely for the OH tonight.

We have two Asus tablets. The old one (mine) runs android and Barbs' came with android (a month ago) and a Win 10 upgrade option. They both do the job.

Argos are doing a great deal on this Lenovo Android tablet.I bought and set one up for my mum.Works great,runs Android 5 too.
She loves it.

Their cracking tablets for the money , everyone in the house wanted a tablet for xmas , i bought 4 this weekend , good job we have an x mas fund .
