no ride for me today. Wind is too strong here in North Wales. I would just be swept away in it so best to be safe and watch tv instead.

Think I saw you this morning, trailer with a flag on, going past Decathlon after 8 ish? Too windy for me to even try, was in the car, but will venture out tomorrow.

Aye, that will have most likely been me (can't be too many trike/trailer combos going the same route at the same time) - the "flag" is a beer mat - got to personalise these things

"Interesting" ride home tonight - even had to get off the bike a couple of times. Really don't like these sudden gusts from all directions - even worse than a headwind.

What a bizarre ride home: shifting to the big ring going uphill and then having to shift down to descend! I also had something ping off my glasses at high speed, so I'm rather relieved I decided to wear them today.

Re the Runcorn Bridge: after the last renovation they put up about 10 Cyclist Dismount signs. TBH on a day like today I'd rather be on the road part with the cars than riding next to the edge.

Bit daft really. It's like they had a sign making quota and couldn't think what else to put on them. Peds don't don't even use the path much so they may as well repave it, stick some lines on it and turn it into a cycle lane. I certainly wouldn't cycle on the road over it.

Do you go to Widnes college in Cronton? I went there!

I go to Kingsway instead - Cronton is mostly A-levels now. Kingsway isn't great, we've got all the scallies doing motor vehicle maintenance and stuff like that. When did you go to Cronton?

Been over that bridge a few times on my mountain bike and it is very exposed. Wouldn't even attempt it in high winds.

I ended up walking over it on the way home. It was far stronger on the way home and I couldn't even keep control properly at 7/8mph so I got off and pushed most of the way home.

OK I probably should have checked that today’s stage of the Tour de Britain hadn’t been cancelled owing to gales gusting at Blackpool – but that would have meant missing the surreal sight of Mark Cavendish giving a speech in the middle of a Tower Ballroom tea dance – I even saw myself taking his picture on the ITV4 highlights (I was next to the woman waving the Manx flag). Mr C revealed he was a ballroom dancer in his youth, however he didn’t show us his paso doble.

Where abouts in North Wales do you live? The wind has been strong, but I managed to ride in it.

Did Kingsway used to be Halton College? I did my a-levels at Cronton between 1997-99.

Yeah, it used to be, but now it's all under Riverside College (Runcorn, Kingsway & Cronton). Runcorn closed because they're £2 million in debt, so now it's just Kingsway and Cronton, which is now officially a 6th form again.

I've a darn difficult 100km ride this weekend - so had little choice but to put the hammer down today so that by tomorrow night I can taper

Damm was it windy today - 20 miles this morning , on a SS , with a head wind - good prep for this weekend where I go up Vs some mighty fine rec cyclists in a route that has approx 7k ft of climbs

It's best to start with the worst - it can then only get better
