Good afternoon CC'ers! :hello: Those of you in the U.K that live anywhere in or around the flood affected areas - i hope you're all alright. so to the point:

i know it's not properly cold yet but those pesky cycling websites do love a good mail out when they've got new kit...i've just seen some new Pearl Izumi stuff...it's pretty frikin expensive but it also looks pretty frikin cool so...before i go and spend the best part of £200 on a new winter top and bib tights i was wondering...is it any frikin good? anyone?

not a fan of the Pearl Izumi gear myself, I don't think its great value for money and is not desirable enough to waste money on.

If you want cost effective, get down to Aldi today, reasonable gear at prices which are outstanding. if you want real nice gear look at Assos, Castelli and if you like that retro look Rapha

Aldi tops are fine. I've got standard Pearl Izumi tops, but I got them at a big discount.

Bids etc - got a decathlon near you - Wiggle's own DHB are very good. Winter tops - Aldi £14.99, Decathlon etc etc.

If you want to spend mega bucks, then off you go.

Personally, I would look to dhb on wiggle. Also LG kit in Evans is good quality and there is 3 for 2 offer on atm.

I find Pearl Izumi over-priced and rather small in its sizing. I prefer Ron Hill and Altura for for tights and a proper High Tech' jacket from an out doors shop over cycling tops.

Another one for Wiggle as well. You won't get any better than these http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-pace-superroubaix-windproof-padded-bib-tight/. These are top of the DHB range with a very good pad but last seasons stock - it is all the Vaeon range this year. Trouble is limited in sizes available. I've just ordered myself a pair of mediums.

for cheap and cheerful use a pair of running tights over your normal shorts and a long sleeve base layer, good enough for commuting if not the prettiest.

Another Ronhill vote from me for proper winter. Cheap as chips, good quality and they do a "bikester" version with a higher cut at the back and reflective bits. Not padded though, if that bothers you.

Are the seams on those flat locked or normal Nigel?
It doesn't mention flat locked seams in the spec. Zacalwe. I bought the Pace Roubaix last year which were excellent - next model down - so I could check those but they are stored away in the loft with my other winter gear. I'll look on the weekend.
