winter approaches but what knickers for warm knackers?

I've got a pair of 'Funkier' winter bibs that serve me well.

They are comfortable, a good fit and you definitely don't boil in the bag when wearing them, yet they block the cold well at the same time.

Not very expensive either IIRC, I think they were about £40.

In fact just found the same ones HERE

Another one for Wiggle as well. You won't get any better than these http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-pace-superroubaix-windproof-padded-bib-tight/. These are top of the DHB range with a very good pad but last seasons stock - it is all the Vaeon range this year. Trouble is limited in sizes available. I've just ordered myself a pair of mediums.

I've never worn cycle clothing before, i assume that you wear nothing underneath do they realy keep you warm from the waste down? And what would you ware on top?

I went to my local Aldi on Thursday morning at 08:00 I was the first one in the shop, I was very disappointed as there were no winter trousers or jackets what stock they did have was very limited in quantity for instance there was no more than ten pairs of shoes.

I used the DHB bib tights last year, I was comfortable until -2, then I added leg warmers over the top, and continued riding even when it hit -5.

Nothing underneath cycle bibs or shorts generally, no. Some people wear underwear but that extra layer of fabric can chafe. On a commute ill wear briefs under the Lycra but that's because it's a shorter ride and I'd prefer not to get my lad out at work, it just feels wrong. Long rides, just shorts.

You don't need much to keep legs warm really, they're doing all the work so keep pretty warm. Blocking wind and having a fleecy layer of Lycra does enough generally, much like a wetsuit on a scuba diver.

On top of bib shorts you wear a jersey like normal. When its cold my top half goes base layer, bib over the top of that, then jersey over bib straps, then jacket if needed.
