Winter bike......

I am going to pick up a Genesis Equilibrium disc Ltd in Jan as an all rounder and use my Ribble for CG and racing with segment of the week attempts.

October isn't winter, November is barely winter,

That's why you need an Autumn bike, as well as the Spring, Summer and Winter ones*. Like others, I ride the bike suitable for the weather/road conditions, so the 'winter' Ribble with the mudguards might well come out in mid summer if its raining or the roads are still wet - like last Saturday, a beautiful dry day, but after the recent torrential rain and thunder storms the lanes were flooded and water still pouring off the fields.
* and justify having four bikes?

If the weather is the same as last year you will only need a Winter bike for about 3 days. They are predicting an Indian summer for October.

I have 4 bikes; an old (rigid) mountain bike, an even older steel framed 'Team Banana' bike, an aluminium Carrera Vanquish and a carbon Forme Axe Edge Pro. The Forme is lovely to ride and is the ride when weather is nice and dry. The Carrera has raceblades for wet conditions and the 'Banana' usually live on the turbo.Once the first salt of the Winter goes on to the roads, the Forme (with its far more expensive components) is hung on the garage wall. I'm as happy as I can be riding the Carrera in Winter, as I dislike cold weather, a lot!
