Having sold the car months ago, and commute to work everyday on the bike, have to say, best thing I've done. Not bother about the rain, with the right clothes you keep nice and dry.
Not over Keen on the wind, I remember a few month ago nearly getting blown off the bike in a nasty crosswind:angry:

Going to man up and start taking the mountain bike to work. I've got waterproofs from my golfing days so just need a waterproof helmet cover, overshoes and backpack.

all summer i constantly ride every day at least 30 miles a day, with work commitments and the nasty weather missed three days, today a clear day no work layered up and hit the trail, did some of the wiggle route for tomorrow and headed north to stonehenge,i rode 100k on my steel winter bike, average down got my layers wrong,my sustenance was poor and i suffered, lets hope my winter mileage improves....

I commute all winter, and go out for 3-4 hours on a weekend barring snow & ice. I'm also throwing in some proper structured turbo training this year. The thing I really, really dislike about winter is having to clean my good bike after every long ride.

I'm now 5 shifts in 5 biking it in, and will continue to do so until it's icy/snowy, then I'll be using the car. Just not worth it when the car is sat there, but where possible I shall cycle

Putting the bike away on the 19th in the evening after the Wiggle South Downs.

Clean, hang up, wait until its dry and bright again...

I struggle in the winter and hope to do only about 2 days a week as 3 hrs in crappy weather is no fun.

However, to keep going over winter does make spring seem so much sweeter.

many of us on here kept going through that really cold winter a few years back , - 12 was chilly but doable with the right clothing and careful cycling.

I think when it gets icy then it just becomes dangerous. I remember last year going round Richmond park and some guy In front of me went down on ice - ever since then I don't risk it in ice or snow.

don't mind the snow too much, gives me an excuse to take the tractor out for a bit if snow ploughing with the bucket and miles on the bike aren't too bad
black ice on the road is a nasty one though and have seen many a car in hedgerows over the years and have slipped on the bike a few times
Cheers Ed
