I remember Jane Torvill being unenthusiastic about both the Russian skaters' routines in the Olympic final. In particular, the winning skater gamed the score weighting for jumps performed in the last two minutes. And in other news, Kaetlyn Osmond, bronze medal winner in figure skating, won gold at the recent world championships. Astonishing fortitude considering she broke her leg requiring major surgery to fix and then re-learn to skate at the top level less than 4 years ago. Not bad for a 22 year old.
Scoring has always been figure skating's achilles heel, although it's improved a heap since the 6.0 days. I've seen at first hand the odd bit of 'expedient' scoring during some of Bolletta's competitions.
Off topic @Shadow, but we've just handed your women's basketball team their asses in the post-brexit-wishful-thinking-trading-block games.
