Finally we have a medal, not just any colour but gold from Matt Weston in the skeleton.
First British male winter gold since Robin Cousins in 1980!

First individual male gold since 1980, Christopher Dean won gold in 1984 (I know it never gets mentioned so is easy to forget). I was really surprised when I heard that as it feels like we’ve been relatively successful in more recent Games but it has been the women winning the golds. I was convinced Wilf O’Reilly had won gold in short track but when I checked it was only a demo sport that year.

Very different steering technique as well, and it probably depends a lot on the coaches - and skeleton is helped to gain competitors by the fact Britain has had success previously (although mainly from the women).

I wonder why GB are good at skeleton but not good at luge?
They can’t be that different can they?
Maybe it’s the seated push off that needs technique?

GB hired the worlds best slider after the last Olympics as a coach AND his designer. Plus utilising wind tunnel, McLaren F1 and BAE expertise all helps.
