50km mass start cross country- that’s a proper winter sport

Actual fights are hugely infrequent. There is lots of pushing and shoving, it is a physical sport, like rugby. But fighting is a no-no and will generally cost the instigator's team, especially in the knock out rounds. Giving away silly penalties at this level is not a smart thing to do.

The governing body really clamped down on the fights a while ago so they are pretty rare and more of a squabble compared the days when teams had designated fighters in the player rotation.

Quite.
Lung bustingly and leg muscle painfully difficult...to do it well anyway...like racing up Ventoux.

In 2010 I went to watch it and was tired just seeing them go by!

That final attack in the last km to win it was incredible.

Between 3 of them, no one explained 3 on 3 in overtime for ice hockey.
I assume it will be 6 players in total, not 8. And the presenter actually posed the question !
Sudden death golden puck goal?

Can’t decide if I like ice hockey or not. It looks absolutely exhausting to play but as a spectator sport it is almost too fast.

I recall watching Nottingham Panthers at their home years ago. Even with very good eyesight I found it very hard to follow the puck.
Slightly easier on TV, though not a lot.

Ok, looks like 4 on 4, unless I got that replay wrong !
Edit - stupidly it sounds like ' 5 a side footy' is 4 on 4 !
Bonkers!

It is three outfield players plus goalie each. As opposed to the normal 5 outfield players plus goalie.

And yes, it is sudden death "golden goal". For 10 minutes, and if no goal scored it then goes to a penalty shoot out.

Jeanette Kwakye asked the two so called experts' 'what does it mean by 3'.
Their answer was '3 players'. Meaning rather mysteriously that, in their eyes, the goalie is not a player.

Extremely short highlights of the bronze medal match then showed it was actually to be 4 a side and with sudden death.
The whole BBC coverage has been plagued with Carlton Kirby style 'wow, wow, wow' commentary, though in Kirbys defence, Kirby does often explain.

Steve Cram though did a decent enough job on the Curling

I remember a short lived experiment where a TV company (Fox I think) tried putting a virtual trail on the puck. It got ripped to bits for being gimmicky.

It's one of those games where once you've watched a lot of it, you kind of pick up on where the puck is intuitively, but even that is tricky!
