Morning All,
I am in the market (with Cyclescheme) for a winter weekend bike and to be used for my daily 16 mile commute. I have been looking at the Planet X Kaffenback 2 Shimano Tiagra with a few extras at about £880 but it does seem heavy at 24lbs. Also like the Ribble Audax but it doesnt have disc brakes which I really wanted for the commute part of my week.

Been looking at the new Genesis's but it would be the CDF and the set up is pretty poor compared to the above. Anyone been in the market and see any thing they can recommend or have experience of the Kaffenback?

Thanks

Ordered the Kaffenback 2 as my bike was sold on eBay (if they come good and are not time wasters). Should be ok for a winter trainer and year round commuter.

Saturday... I know been ages... Work caused the hold up with the cyclescheme voucher
Doh! Would be very interested to hear what your thoughts are when you've got it and done a few rides. Considering getting a winter commuter so I (1) don't screw my road bike up, and (2) I want something that will take full mudguards - I stuck Crud Racer Mk2's on my Trek 2.1 last winter and found just a complete pain!

You won't screw your road bike up by winter riding.
Keep on top of the cleaning and lubing and it will be fine.

True, but would be nice to have a bike that can take full mudguards. I've ended-up with 4 wet commutes in the last week; 2 of which I've got absolutely soaked. I personally can't face having to tinker with the crud racer mk2's again!

Also, disc brakes would be incredibly useful for the winter. Perhaps I just have an urge for n+1

You can get race blades that fit the majority of road bikes. They do a remarkably good job.

And yes, my commute bike has disc brakes...see my photo folder.
