Wiping down Chains

Following on from the replacing chain threads, what do people use to give their chain a quick wipe down after a commute. Are baby wipes any good?

I don't bother on my way into work - just spin the chain to remove any surface water before storing the bike.

Back home, wipe with dry cloth to remove road crud, wipe with cloth soaked in oil - esp the rollers. Every so often, I scrub the chain, rinse it off then wipe thoroughly with an oily cloth.

Baby wipes are great for chains and general bike cleaning.

I use baby wipes, they get anything off anything - shocking to think people put those chemicals on babys faces/arses!

To be honest, it seems like a lot of messing.

Blimey , baby wipes seem very popular. I just use a nylon bristled brush , kept for the purpose , and they give it a squirt of oil if it looks like it needs one.

never touch it, clean and oil now and then, other than that, it's a bike not a bloody racehorse

For me it's a rag with a bit of WD40 on it.

Tell me you're kidding BM! WD40 is the devil's jism. It may remove crud etc, but it's solvents are a menace. Mate of mine used to wipe his shotgun down with WD40 and over time it ruined the blueing on the barrels. GT85 on the other hand leaves behind a kind and soothing teflon residue. And makes the garage smell lovely.

I've never tried the baby wipes on a chain but find a mixture of wet and dry wiping with a cloth followed by applying some oil keeps the chains in good condition!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Invest in some Muc Off wipes. Will clean off all the crud with a couple of wipes.
