I think the thing I set up said "WPA + WPA2"

whatever that means ;)

Would the Mac code be the big long password referred to above?

That means WPA2 backward compatible - devices supporting WAP and WAP2 would be able to connect with the same password.

The MAC (Media Access Control) address is a hardwired address for the network device. Should be unique to each network device/port. So some routers are able to filter out connections unless it is a recognized MAC address. It is useful additional security, but can be cloned. The long password you setup was the key or passphrase.

Thanks

A real learning process this

Will try and get the mac codes and register them with the router

Fingers crossed I can get the laptop top connect tomorrow without to much hassle

On Windows XP - go to Start - Connect to - Show all connections - right click the network device and select status - select support tab then details - the mac address is listed as the Physical Address.

Each network device has it's own, so repeat for each device , such as LAN and wireless. Not sure if the router would filter out hardwired connections, may be worth adding to the list anyway incase wifi plays up.
