We have spent a lot on christmas food this year. Its reached the £300 mark (not in one shop). Glad to say that we dont need anything more now as we got all the fresh veg yesterday.
We have the grandparents coming around on christmas day for lunch so we have had to get extras of everything.

We always go to Sainsbury's because we are upper class and only get the best.

It really is bonkers. My son works for Tesco's and yesterday it was rammed from opening to closing. It isn't a big store but they took over 250k at the tills. Which is 3 times what they would take on a normal Saturday. Today is predicted to be even busier.
What are people going to do with all that stuff?

The great thing about Sainsburys is, they keep the riff raff out of Waitrose....

We're just back from a quick foray to Morrisons*, and it wasn't much different to any Saturday really. The miserable rain might be keeping people at home I suppose, its meant to clear up this afternoon.

*Stocking up on smoked salmon to take to Mums. I know if I ring and say "Have you got any smoked salmon in?" she'll say "Oh! Yes..." and rush out and buy some. Of course, if she has got some in already, we've got double, and that's not a problem.:hungry:

That's us back from the final food shop. Veg and fish from the farmers market and a quick wizz round Waitrose for milk and bread.

We are officially ready for the festivities :wahhey:

Actually, the roads out are very quiet, less traffic heading to town and to the retail park than on a normal Saturday, must be the driving rain that's doing it.

Well there you go.
They are just back.

She said it was absolute madness with 10 people deep at every till before 8.30am and the aisles jammed with shoppers.
And it's not Christmas Eve! I cheated and did all of my shopping on payday, very early in the month. 9.30am and no queues

Mother dearest has headed off to the butchers to retrieve steaks for Boxing Day, some nice local spuds and probably other crap. I won't be near a shop until at least 7th Jan  The madness and ignorance riles me.

My Mrs started the Christmas food shop back at the end of September, buying a couple of items each week. It's so much easier this way, and you don't notice the extra cost. All we needed to get today was the fresh veg & some double cream and that was about it. Just got back from Tescos and it took less than 20 minutes. I love looking at the other stressed out shoppers with their over flowing trolleys, I can't understand why people leave it to the last minute. All I need to do is pick up the turkey from the butchers Monday morning, who said Christmas shopping is stressful?

The trick to dealing with it all is to learn to be Zen about queueing. If you have to queue, do like horses do and go into a sort of conscious suspended animation, just shuffling forwards as needed. Or enjoy a spot of people watching, oggling other people's trolley loads.

I remember one year when I went home for Christmas, Mum and I went down to the butcher to pick up the capon on Xmas Eve morning, and the queue was out of the door and down the street. We got talking to the lady in front, and it turned out she knew York quite well, and we had a very jolly chat for the time it took to get to the counter.
